Experienced writer recounts memories of Emergency

An experienced journalist shared his experiences with the state of emergency imposed by the central government on June 25, 1975.

NV Ranga Rao said he went through a harrowing period during that time when he and many other journalists were jailed.

How he explained his experiences to the SC Morcha State Secretary General of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), S. Muni Subramanyam, District Secretary General P. Bhaskar, Shakti Kendra in charge of G. Gopinath Reddy and Chittoor East District Leader Subramanyam Yadav, Mr. Ranga Rao had to go into hiding several times and evade the police to avoid getting caught. “However, I could not avoid the arrest for long, after which I was held in Musheerabad prison for 18 months,” he recalls.

After Mr. Ranga Rao worked as a reporter for an English news agency, he became District Secretary General of Jana Sangh and later the BJP. The BJP leaders took this opportunity to compliment him with a scarf.
