After 389 cases were reported on Monday, the daily number doubled on Tuesday when 729 people tested positive in the south coast of Andhra Pradesh.
However, as the number of recoveries continued to be higher than that of new infections, the number of active cases decreased by about 700 compared to the previous day. The total number of coronavirus cases rose to more than 2.39 lakh.
Six other patients succumbed to the virus disease in the past 24 hours. The toll passed 1,750 when 878 patients died of COVID in SPSR Nellore district and 873 in Prakasam district, according to a health bulletin published by the state government.
Up to 1,432 patients recovered in the region during the period compared to over 1,800 patients cured the previous day. The recovery rate improved slightly to 93.82%, as over 2.24 lakh patients have so far won the battle against the disease.
