AP identifies goods for the scheme “One district, one product”

Government build industrial sites, develop export potential

The Andhra Pradesh government recently identified one product from each of 13 districts under the One District One Product (ODOP) program, which aims to develop traditional industrial centers at the district level. In addition, it creates action plans to realize the export potential of the respective products.

The district-related products are: ready-made clothing (Anantapur), ballpoint pens Kalamkari (Chittoor), coconut and coconut products (East Godavari), red chillies (Guntur), barium and baryta (Kadapa), Kondapalli toys (Krishna), stone carving (Kurnool), Wooden cutlery (Nellore), granite polish (Prakasam), Ponduru cotton (Srikakulam), etiquoppaka toys (Visakhapatnam), mango jelly (Vizianagaram) and crochet lace (West Godavari).

According to official sources, the products have been cataloged and steps are being taken to address the gaps in infrastructure, supply chain and capabilities. The focus will be on exploring overseas markets, which is the purpose of integrating the ODOP with the “Districts as Export Centers” initiative, which is being implemented jointly by the General Directorate for Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Industry and Internal Development.

The state government has teamed up with leading e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra and some of the products are well received by customers. The government also provides financial and logistical support, such as shared facility centers, to increase the production of selected products.

The products will ultimately be considered for geo-tagging, which can give them a distinct advantage over other products in global markets.

The AP-Economic Development Board and Industries and the other departments concerned are working to create the ecosystem necessary to make the products exportable and to resolve issues that are hampering efforts to upgrade the products to export items that The cash register can generate considerable income.

The Ministry of Food Industry has approved one food product separately in each of the 13 districts as part of the ODOP program. The aim of the program is to achieve the goal of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”.
