Bhaskara Rao, who has been affected by coronavirus, received a lung transplant that cost ₹ 2 crore. costs

N. Bhaskara Rao, doctor and medical officer of the Primary Health Center (PHC) in the remote village of Karamchedu in Prakasam District, had helped hundreds of people infected with COVID-19 make a wise recovery and instilled much-needed courage to deal with the viral disease to fight.

The 38-year-old doctor had used all his persuasiveness to convince villagers to take the COVID-19 test and get vaccinated while the virus was spreading strongly and quickly.

He had infected himself with the virus on April 24th. First he had been treated in Vijayawada. He was later transferred to a company hospital in Hyderabad because he suffered from “post-COVID fibrosis”.

“He’s been on ventilation support for a long time. Doctors treating him are now recommending an organ transplant because his lungs are not responding to treatment, ”says Nayudamma, who is from the village.

Mr. Nayudamma has taken the initiative to bring like-minded people together for a good cause.

The people of the travel-rich village of Karamchedu in the western Krishna Delta and neighboring villages such as Swarna and Nagulapalem have paid off their “debts to the people’s doctor” in their own way and over 20 lakh for the treatment of Dr. Bhaskara Rao mobilized.

Crowdfunding

This is insufficient as the estimated medical expenses for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) procedures, preoperative treatment, lung transplantation, and postoperative care are expected to be between ₹ 1.50 to ₹ 2 crore.

Therefore, his wife B. Bhagyalakshmi, also a radiologist, accessed the crowdfunding platform ImpactGuru to raise funds from generous people while also soliciting support from the government of Andhra Pradesh.

“My husband has no history. He is a non-smoker and alcohol-free. He needs a lung transplant as a last resort for a new life, ”she said.

Dr. Bhaskara Rao also has elderly parents and a 13 year old son to look after.
