“Injections given by the Black Fungus Treatment Center are inadequate”

The state government told the Andhra Pradesh Supreme Court that the center has provided 13,830 amphotericin-B injections to treat cases of black fungus for the month of May and that this is by no means sufficient.

“The state has placed orders for the injection of its own, but the central government needs to increase the allocation of this injection and other drugs used to treat black fungus cases,” said a memo submitted to the court on Thursday.

The government also informed the court that an immediate COVID order had been issued regarding the protocol for admitting and treating black fungus cases, for which 19 hospitals have been notified. The number of such hospitals will be increased as needed, it said.

In addition, in anticipation of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government had formed a working group committee to deal with the availability of infrastructure, the training of nurses and paramedical staff, and pediatric care.

The immediate order had instructed the hospitals to obtain countersignatures from the node officials on the invoices issued to the patients for verification.
