Cyclone Yaas is said to have mild effects on AP, Jagan says

Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said Monday that Andhra Pradesh is expected to be largely spared the effects of an impending cyclone called Yaas, which is expected to land on the West Bengal-Odisha coast on Wednesday.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy made his observation during a video conference with the Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, which also included West Bengal Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee, Odisha Prime Minister Naveen Patnaik and Vice Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Devendra Kumar Joshi, participated.

During the conference, Jagan Mohan Reddy said the cyclone’s impact on Andhra Pradesh should not be severe. However, the state government is still on high alert to face any eventuality, he said.

At a later briefing meeting, Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to take action to mitigate the effects of the cyclone that was reportedly heading towards West Bengal.

The officials informed the prime minister that they had informed the authorities of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts of the impending cyclone.

Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy directed officers to ensure that COVID patients were not experiencing problems and that oxygen and electricity supplies were not interrupted to hospitals.

He suggested setting up alternative sources of oxygen in case the supplies to plants in Odisha were cut off due to the cyclone.

Among those present were Interior Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha, General Secretary Aditya Nath Das, DGP Gautam Sawang, General Secretary AK Singhal (Health) and MT Krishna Babu (Transport).
