Banaganapalle ex MLA detained for “attacking” YSRCP workers

TDP leader, BC Janardhan Reddy, was produced in court; his followers were also arrested

The chairman of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and former MLA BC of Banaganapalle, Janardhan Reddy, and eight of his supporters were arrested in Banaganapalle in the early hours of Monday for an alleged attack on a YSR Congress party employee, Koneti Durga Prasad Arrested Sunday night.

Police personnel, led by Police Deputy Superintendent V. Narasimha Reddy, took them all into custody in a pre-dawn exercise after Mr Durga Prasad filed a complaint last night alleging that the TDP leader had him during beaten with sticks in front of the MLA house.

After the arrest, everyone was taken to Dhone Hospital for a COVID test and then taken to the rural police station in Dhone. In the evening, the DSP announced that Janardhan Reddy had tested negative for COVID and an arrest warrant had been issued that put him in custody for 14 days.

Police post arranged

The TDP leader was produced virtually in front of the Allagadda court and taken into custody by the judge. The remaining eight people, supporters of Mr Janardhan Reddy, will be physically produced in court on Tuesday, the DSP added. In Banaganapalle, a police post was organized under the supervision of the Dhone Rural Circle Inspector when large numbers of TDP activists and supporters of Janardhan Reddy gathered at his residence.

Meanwhile, the Second City Police took into custody the former TDP MLA Kandikunta Venkata Prasad of the Government General Hospital in Anantapur on Tuesday. The district inspector said that he had violated the rules of the Civil Protection Act and was against the work of the hospital. As a result, he was removed from there and taken to the police station, notified in Section 41 and sent back to Kadiri.
