Naidu condemns the arrest of TDP, oppn. leader

Jagan aims at Oppn. Parties instead of focusing on COVID care, the TDP boss claims

National President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and former Prime Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has condemned the arrests of TDP leaders and other opposition parties.

“There are two laws in the state. One for the leaders of the ruling party and the other for the opposition leaders. The TDP strongly condemns the arrests of opposition leaders, ”he said.

Speaking to senior party leaders and mandal presidents on Tuesday, Mr Naidu said that instead of coming to rescue patients in need, the government was targeting opposition leaders. The police arrested the TDP leaders and CPI State Secretary K. Narayana when they were about to visit Ruia Hospital. On the other hand, the ruling YSRCP leaders were allowed to go to the wards of this hospital. “It’s double standards,” he said.

Eleven COVID patients died of oxygen starvation at Ruia Hospital in Tirupati. Other reports said the actual death toll could be 29. The TDP had formed an investigative committee. To date, over 76 patients across the state have died from a lack of oxygen, ”he said.

The TDP chief said while other states were buying vaccines in thousands of doses, Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy spent his time writing letters to the center. Kerala and Gujarat were at the forefront of vaccination. Israel was the world leader in vaccine delivery as it already covered 60-70% of the population. In America, too, vaccination was in full swing. “Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy has neglected this important aspect and only allocated 45 crore when it takes more than 1,600 crore to meet the state’s vaccination needs,” he said.
