The first vaccination dose will resume from June 1st in Chittoor

District collector M. Hari Narayanan said that the first vaccination campaign will resume from June 1st.

In a conversation with the media here on Monday, the collector said that up to 1.22 lakh people had not yet received the second dose in the district. He said there was currently a supply of 24,000 units for the second dose and it would begin on Wednesday. “The entire month of May would be focused on making a second dose vaccine available to the public on a seniority basis,” he said.

Regarding the oxygen supplies in the state hospitals, Mr. Narayanan said there is currently no oxygen starvation. He said more than 40 tons of oxygen is being used for the Covid patients in the district and an application has been made to the state government to procure an additional four tons a day, given the increase in positive cases and demand for beds.

The collector appealed to the public not to panic but to strictly adhere to the Covid protocols, especially the use of face masks, disinfectants and maintaining social distance in the public places.

The number of positive cases in Chittoor County during the past 24 hours was 1,543, showing a sharp drop in the number for a week. “During the past week, the daily cases have been over 2,500. However, Monday’s figure has brought great relief to the staff of the Covid Task Force,” said a senior doctor.
