YSRCP group dies of COVID

Padarthi Ramesh Gandhi, chairman of the YSR Congress Party and corporator of the Sixth Division, died in a Hyderabad hospital on Thursday. Mr Gandhi was infected with COVID-19 and was recently relocated to Hyderabad.

Mr. Gandhi, a senior leader who started his innings with Congress, has long been President of the City Congress.

He later joined the YSRCP and was an enthusiastic candidate for mayor in the recent election. The party had decided to reward him by appointing him mayor two and a half years after Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu was in office.

Mr Gandhi had campaigned actively for the party in the election. However, on the day of the swearing in, he fell ill and was taken to a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was soon put on a ventilator and succumbed on Thursday.

Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has approved of Mr. Gandhi’s death and given assurances that the party would support the family. Interior Minister M. Suchaita, Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu, General Secretary of the Lella Appireddy party have approved the death of Mr. Gandhi.
