Chittoor has a 61.3% turnout in ZPTC and MPTC polls

In the elections to the 419 MPTCs and 33 ZPTCs in the Chittoor district, a voter turnout of 61.34% was recorded on Thursday.

The notification for the polls was released in March last year and the YSRCP candidates were unanimously elected to 30 ZPTCs and 433 MPTCs.

The poll started off boringly in the morning as the turnout was only 24% by 11 a.m. The number of visitors to the stands gradually increased. By 1 p.m., the percentage of polls rose to 41%. The vote took place after 2 p.m.

A minor clash between the YSRCP and TDP activists was reported in the Yadamarri mandal. Voters reportedly boycotted polls in the Gudipala mandal in the constituency of the Kuppam assembly.

The effects of the TDP’s call to boycott the elections were visible in the district without the party cadres being present at the polling stations.

SP S. Senthil Kumar said 5,900 police officers were used on bandobust duties, apart from a strict vigil at interstate border checkpoints, to prevent the flow of money and alcohol.
