Government canceled NEP compliance exams: Minister

Education Minister A. Suresh said Friday that the government had chosen to cancel the intermediate and SSC exams and was complying with the Supreme Court ruling.

“It is unfortunate that the TDP is trying to win political career on this issue,” he told the media here.

The top court had requested that the process of conducting the examinations should be completed by July 31, in order to comply with the National Education Policy (NEP).

Had the NEP been developed before, the government would primarily have stuck to it.

He claimed that about 74% of students wanted the exams to be taken and said the government had done its best to protect the students’ interests while taking precautions against COVID-19.

“The government had no choice but to cancel the exams as it is unable to complete the process within the deadline,” said Suresh.

“The struggle led by Nara Lokesh in support of the students has paid off,” said T. Ravi Teja, president of the Ongole Lok Sabha unit of the student union Telugu Nadu.
