Construction of an overpass is underway on the section of the Chennai-Kolkata National Road (NH16) adjacent to Vijayawada International Airport (VIA).
A preliminary meeting of the feasibility study between the parties took place in the VIA on Thursday.
VIA Director G. Madhusudhan Rao, NHAI, Vijayawada Project Director DV Narayana, Road and Building Supervision Engineer Raghavendra Rao, AAI Managing Director (Projects) Md. Tajuddin and others discussed the plans, the feasibility of the project and the granting of clearance by the airport authorities .
The construction of the one-sided flyover (Gannavaram-Vijayawada) is intended to avoid the accident-prone area in which NH traffic in the direction of the city crosses with the entrance and exit of the airport entrance.
According to Madhusudhan Rao, the overpass would include both the existing airport entrance and the upcoming main entrance near Kesarapalli.
He said the airport wall would need to be relocated to pave the way for the overpass to be built.
