The special vaccination campaign initiated by the state government to combat COVID-19 met with a good response from people in the city on Sunday. A total of 1.10.147 people were stabbed into the station secretariats as part of the campaign.
People over 45 years of age and women with children under five years of age were vaccinated while driving. The action started at 7 a.m. at all 572 station secretariats. By 2 p.m., 84,461 eligible people had been vaccinated. According to the Greater Visakhatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), around 1,10,000 people had been vaccinated by 7 p.m.
Doctors, nurses, officials from the Ministry of Health, ASHA staff, ANMs, volunteers on the ward and other staff from the ward secretariats coordinated the implementation of the action. Volunteers at the station kept people informed of the ride through phone calls and group messages.
Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari inspected the driveway in districts 11 and 13 in the Arilova area. After district collector V. Vinay Chand received orders to drive on Friday, he organized a meeting with the officials and instructed them to begin the program. District Vaccination Officer Jeevan Rani said 578 health officials, 578 vaccinators, 2,890 other health workers and 611 ASHA employees participated in the campaign.
Additional Commissioner V. Sanyasi Rao inspected the drive in the community secretariats in Allipuram (District No. 32), the Priyadarshini Colony (District No. 35) and the City Operations Center (COO).
GVMC Commissioner G. Srijana used social media to congratulate GVMC staff and officials from the Ministry of Health for the smooth and successful implementation of the action. She said the GVMC targeted 1-lakh vaccinations and the team exceeded the target.
