Telugu Mahila State President V. Anita has described the insistence of Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government on holding SSC and mid-term exams as a “foolish measure” that can endanger the lives of students .
At a press conference here on Thursday, Ms. Anita wanted to know whether the YSRCP government could guarantee that the students’ lives would not be in danger or at least promise to pay their families ex gratia if anything should happen to them. She recalled that last year 200 students at a private college in Rajamahendravaram were affected by COVID-19 and some students at Andhra University were also affected.
She explained that several government employees, teachers and parents had died from COVID and wondered if any of them had been paid compensation by the government. She alleged the government was determined to continue investigations to reject TDP National Secretary General N. Lokesh’s proposal to cancel it given the situation.
“Approximately 13 lakh students are expected to take the SSC and intermediate exams. The review process must begin at least two to three months in advance. The state government’s announcement that the exams will take place in late July and the results will be announced in September will delay the academic calendar and disrupt the next academic year, ”she said.
