Claiming that TDP leaders confiscated large tracts of land in the district during the tenure of former Prime Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Anakapalle MLA Gudivada Amarnath said it was the government’s responsibility to protect public land from encroachment.
At a press conference here on Monday, Mr Amarnath claimed that the TDP leaders had the tacit support of the former prime minister in this regard. He recalled that as the opposition leader at the time, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy had fought against attacks in Visakhapatnam. He also claimed that TDP leader and MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu occupied 400 square meters of land and that former MLA Peela Govind Satyanarayana was involved in conquering government lands.
The then-collector of Visakhapatnam had stated that records of 1 lakh acre of land had disappeared. Referring to former Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu’s remarks that land grabbing has been going on in Visakhapatnam for the past three years, he said that no TDP leader has the moral right to speak about land grabbing in Visakhapatnam.
