The President of Telugu Mahila State and member of the TDP Politburo V. Anitha has described the actions of the city police against Lakshmi Aparna, a hospital employee, as “inhuman”.
In a conversation with the media here on Monday, she condemned the booking of proceedings against Ms. Aparna. Ms. Anitha said Ms. Aparna came into town for work and questioned the police about her “arrogant” behavior towards the boy who picked her up after work. Mrs. Aparna didn’t want the boy to suffer because of her, said Mrs. Anitha.
The Telugu Mahila leader regretted the police’s behavior towards the girl. She said it was unfortunate that COVID warriors were being congratulated on the one hand for their dedication to the pandemic situation, on the other hand that incidents of this kind undermined their morale. She asked if the common man had no right to question the actions of the police.
The TDP leader wondered if this was the respect women should expect in the state, and if this was what was meant by “friendly policing”. She alleged that the police, who behaved self-importantly towards the girl, had booked cases with the victim. Ms. Anita condemned the district inspector’s action because he had asked his staff to check whether the girl was under the influence of alcohol and asked the police if they intended to make the girl another Sudhakar (Dr. Sudhakar, anesthetist, who recently died). .
The TDP leader also criticized the Interior Minister and the AP Women’s Commission for not responding to the incident. It claimed that Visakhapatnam was converted into a “rowdy Rajyam” contrary to claims to make Visakhapatnam the “executive capital” of the state. She demanded that the police superintendent react immediately, withdraw the cases booked against the girl and initiate disciplinary action against the police personnel who allegedly behaved autocratically towards Ms. Aparna.
