Police confiscated 10,000 liters of fermented jaggery laundry and 1,000 liters of illegal alcohol on Sunday and arrested seven people in the hamlets of Kalini and Ayyavari Kandriga in the Palassamudram mandal, 50 km from here.
Police Superintendent S. Senthil Kumar and Deputy SP (Law and Order) N. Sudhakar Reddy told reporters here that gangs involved in the brewing of illegal liquor had resumed activity in the Palasamudram mandal by imposing the lockdown and took advantage of the thin movement of the public. A special party was formed by roping down police from NR Peta, Palasamudram, Chittoor East and SR Puram stations and taking action in the early hours of Sunday morning. A large amount of material used to brew liquor and the supply of fermented jaggery and liquor was confiscated.

Meanwhile, SP Senthil Kumar said that 10 lakh yen worth of gutkha and tobacco products were confiscated in multiple locations during the special raids in Madanapalle, Palamaner, Chittoor, Puttur and Sri City on Sunday. The raids involved small shops and tea stalls. Cases have been booked against 15 people who were arrested. The SP said Punganur police arrested two youths and confiscated 10 kg of ganja in a remote location near the Karnataka border.
