The Chittoor police on Thursday confiscated a huge loot of 9,000 bottles of liquor and 48,000 packets of tobacco products (Gutka) from smugglers, and also confiscated a car and tractor that were used to transport them.
Following a lead, Police Superintendent (Chittoor) S. Senthil Kumar instructed additional SP (Admin) DN Mahesh to whip the whip against the criminals who formed a team led by DSP Sudhakar Reddy on Wednesday. Chittoor Rural East Circle Inspector K. Balaiah, Sub-Inspectors K. Rajasekhar (Thavanampalle) and V. Suman (Gangadhara Nellore) inspected vehicles in their respective jurisdictions and confiscated the Gutka and liquor bottles from a car.
Thavanampalle police seized liquor bottles worth 10 lakh from Goa and Gutka parcels worth 15 lakh from a godown allegedly owned by a charitable foundation. Similarly, a raid on Mani Naidu’s field in Pathapalyam village in Gangadhara Nellore Mandal revealed illegally brought liquor bottles valued at 24.15 lakh. Police arrested R. Suresh Babu, 37, K. Poornachandra, 31, S. Khaleel, 34, V. Sudhakar Naidu, 26 and V. Kumaraswamy Naidu, 36.
