Andhra Pradesh’s energy demand rose 8% month-on-month in May, compared to a 14% national decline, according to an official statement.
In covering the demand through various measures, including procurement from the spot markets, emphasis was placed on an uninterruptible power supply, especially for hospitals, the press release said.
Demand, which was 4,364 ME in May 2020, reached 4,724 ME in the corresponding month of that year.
On the flip side, utilities had spent around 3,763 billion yen on new lines and substations, which helped them reduce utility disruptions by 74%.

In addition, the government paid particular attention to increasing the generation capacities from renewable energies (RE). The installed capacity increased from 3,029 MW in 2018-19 to 3,800 MW in 2021.
The government is working on a plan to build 33.70 GW of pumped storage projects and ultra-mega-renewable energy parks to achieve self-sufficiency in the electricity sector and export electricity to other countries.
In a review meeting on Wednesday, Energy Secretary N. Srikant urged officials to strive to make the state the No. 1 in cost-effective power. He sought to work with the District Collectors to solve problems that hamper the electricity supply.
Minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy said the government has made electricity supply a top priority and all steps are being taken to achieve the goal.
