Work on the medical college and hospital proposed in Gajularega Village, Vizianagaram District, will begin as soon as Chief Minister YSJaganmohan Reddy is due to lay the foundation for the virtual mode project on May 31.
The district administration has completed 70 hectares of land for the project on the Vizianagaram-Gajapathinagaram route, 3 miles from the Collector’s office, and the medical college is being built at an estimated cost of ₹ 500 crore.
Collector M. Hari Jawaharlal and other senior officials have visited the site and made arrangements for the stone laying ceremony. Parvatipuram MLA Alajangi Joga Rao thanked the Chief Minister for taking the initiative for the project.
“The previous TDP government had never focused on building the medical college, even though Vizianagaram did not have adequate health facilities. Together with the medical college, a 300-bed hospital will be completed. The super-specialized health care with additional doctors will be a blessing for the employees of the Parvatipuram division, ”said Joga Rao.
“Almost all districts have medical schools except Vizianagaram. Now the dream will soon become a reality, ”said YSRCP MLC Penumatsa Suresh Babu.
“The Chief Minister should take the necessary steps for the rapid construction of the college. The people of Vizianagaram will be happy if steps are taken to build a cancer hospital as many patients in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts go to Visakhapatnam for treatment, ”said Lok Satta leader B. Babji.
