A family was fined 2 lakh on Thursday in Pathapatnam, Srikakulam district for organizing a wedding attended by 220 people.
Tax officials said the fine was imposed because the gathering far exceeded the government’s 20-person limit.
Upon learning that a large crowd had gathered for a wedding, the Pathapatnam tax officials arrived at the site and fined each person 1,000 yen.
Srikakulam collector J. Nivas on Thursday ordered all tax officials to bring proceedings against the organizers if more than 20 people were present at a gathering. The collector said strict enforcement of the rules was necessary to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the district.
