55 private COVID hospitals receive remdesivir drug

East Godavari County Authorities on Monday supplied 4,086 injections of remdesvir to 55 private hospitals treating the COVID-19 patients.

“There is no shortage of remdesivir. Up to 4,086 injections were given to ensure that two injections were available for each patient admitted to designated private hospitals for COVID treatment, ”said Collector D. Muralidhar Reddy. Over 18,000 remdesivir injections have been given to private hospitals in the past week.

“We have a sufficient number of Remdesivir injections in our branches. However, the injection will only be given to private hospitals if they return the empty injection bottles and provide the recipient’s data for review, ”said Reddy.

Patients were told to pay £ 2,500 for an injection of remedesivir in private hospitals and criminal cases would be booked against hospital management if they charge an excess.

“There is no need to panic about the availability of the drug. We monitor supply and use in private hospitals around the clock, ”Reddy said, warning the public not to fall victim to the drug through middlemen.

“At least three criminal proceedings have been registered against three hospitals for charging treatment fees from the beneficiaries of the Aaogyasri system. Two cases were recorded in Rajamahendravaram and one in Amalapuram, ”he added.
