The resolution, unanimously adopted in the State Assembly on Thursday, opposed the Union government’s proposal to privatize the public sector steelworks Visakhapatnam (VSP), was recognized by political parties and trade unions.
Although the center had taken measures to privatize the VSP, the YSRCP government had made efforts to prevent this, said MP MVV Satyanarayana.
Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has dealt with the center several times in the past, he added.
The resolution fulfilling the promise to union leaders was passed, and this reflected the government’s commitment to save the steel mill, Satyanarayana said.
B. Ganga Rao, CPI (M) Corporator, welcomed the government for adopting the resolution.
He also opposed the government’s proposal to raise funds by listing the VSP on the stock exchange, as this would pave the way for the facility’s privatization. The government should drop the proposal, he said.
The CPI (M) chairman urged the BJP-led government at the center to reconsider its decision to privatize VSP.
In a separate statement, Party District Committee Secretary K. Lokandham also welcomed the resolution against the privatization of VSP. The CPI Deputy State Secretary JV Satyanarayana Murthy also welcomed this. INTUC leader Mantri Rajasekhar also praised the government for adopting the resolution.
