Private and state hospitals in the Anantapur district that were set up under Aarograsri have so far treated 2,220 COVID-19 patients under the program in the second wave.
By Wednesday, since the beginning of the second wave, a total of over 5,000 patients had been treated in all hospitals on non-oxygen-assisted wards, oxygen-assisted wards and in the intensive care unit. Of these, 2,220 patients were enrolled for Aarogyasri, the program’s district coordinator Kiran Kumar Reddy told The Hindu.
“Of the 2,220 patients, 1,050 were treated in private hospitals,” added Dr. Kiran added.
There were another 500 patients who, for various reasons, could not be admitted because they either failed to approach or biometric registration was not possible. However, many of them received free treatment at Government General Hospital, Super Specialty Hospital, or Cancer Hospital in Anantapur.
As of Tuesday, of the total of 1,231 beds in 40 privately designated COVID hospitals in District 941, 719 beds had patients being treated on Aarogyasri, representing 76.41%.
In the meantime, private hospitals that also treated COVID patients in the non-Aarogyasri category have not admitted new patients to this category due to the lack of oxygen-assisted beds.
The District Oxygen Monitoring Committee ensured oxygen needs for all patients admitted to the staffed hospitals and tracked the agencies’ supplies with the help of node officers in each hospital.

“We have ensured strict compliance with the oxygen consumption protocols in the hospitals by performing a twice-daily audit using the dried-out panels to plug any leaks,” said district forest officer R. Jagannath Singh, who is a member of the oxygen monitoring committee .
