The YSR Matsyakara Bharosa program was launched in the district on Tuesday and would benefit 16,630 fishermen as their families would receive funding of £ 10,000 each.
Under the program, the government granted fishermen financial support from April 15 to June 14 for the annual ban on fishing with mechanized boats. The annual ban on fishing and the restriction on the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic have worsened the financial situation of fishermen’s resources.
“The program is a boon to the fishermen who live in 11 coastal mandals. The previous TDP government only gave £ 4,000 earlier but was raised to £ 10,000 by Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, ”said Etcherla MLA Gorle Kirankumar.
Chintapalli Suryanarayana, chairman of the District Fishermen Association, welcomed the government’s initiative at a time when fishermen were experiencing a financial crisis. “
Since Aadhaar cards were not linked to the bank accounts, some fishermen were unable to take advantage of the benefits. Officials should ensure that every eligible beneficiary receives benefits promptly, ”he added.
