Veteran Telugu play singer G. Anand succumbs to COVID-19

Anand, 67, was born in the Srikakulam district of AP and began his career in Chennai. After Ghantasala’s death, he made a name for himself in the Telugu film industry

The experienced playback singer G. Anand succumbed COVID-19 on Thursday evening. Infected with the virus a few days ago, his oxygen saturation dropped to 55 and a timely ventilator could not be provided, resulting in his death.

He made his debut with America Ammayi 1976 with the song Oka venuvu vinipinchenu anuraaga geethika, a composition by GK Venkatesh that became a huge hit. Like his later songs Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya .., Vittala vittala.. also were well received.

He formed a musical group called “Swara Madhuri” and toured the world and performed on nearly 600 shows. Swara Madhuri also served as a platform for many aspiring singers.
