There was no break from coronavirus for people on the south coast of Andhra Pradesh as 13 more patients died from a pandemic and over 3,200 people infected within 24 hours.
According to a health bulletin published by the state government, the number of victims succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, which ended at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, in the last 24 hours up to 9:00 a.m. In those fortnight, not a day went by without double-digit COVID deaths and thousands of new cases.
This increased the toll to 658 in the Prakasam district and 658 in the SPSR Nellore district. There was an eerie calm throughout the region as most people stayed indoors when the second wave of the coronavirus hit the region.
The total number of cases approached the 1.66 lakh mark as a record of 2,001 people who tested positive for the viral disease in Prakasam district. Another 1,200 were infected in the SPSR Nellore district.
The disease was spreading densely and rapidly across rural mandals at a time when the majority of public health centers were ill equipped to handle the large number of new cases.
Healthcare professionals with limited infrastructure found it difficult to manage the health situation as active cases rose to a very high 26,580 in the region during the reporting period.
Up to 1,801 patients, including 1,260 in the SPSR Nellore district, recovered from the disease during the reporting period. However, the number of patients cured during the period was 1,400 fewer when compared to new cases in the region. The recovery rate, which was 99% as of last month, dropped dramatically to 83.19% over the reporting period.
