The High Court on Thursday suspended the closure of the AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB) for Amara Raja Batteries Limited (ARB) production units in Chittoor district. The prerequisite, however, is that the ARBL carries out operations under the supervision of the APPCB and complies with its standards by June 17th.
The court ordered the APPCB to produce a report after that date and made the case available for further hearing on June 28.
It is worth recalling that on April 30, the APPCB notified the ARBL of the closure of its production facilities in Karakambadi and Nunegundlapalli, Chittoor district for alleged violations of the 1974 Water Act (prevention and control of pollution) and the air (prevention and control of Pollution). 1981 Act.
The company was accused of polluting the surrounding air, resulting in high levels of lead in the blood of its employees and surrounding villages, dumping untreated sewage into sewers and untreated sewage into storm sewers, and causing soil contamination.
