Kadapa Police have broken up a cricket betting gang, arrested three suspected bookmakers and took cash and cell phones from their possession. Those arrested were identified as Kamanuru Habibulla, 36, and Vempalli Abdul Rahman, 22, from Kadapa and Nachu Vinod Kumar, 26, from Galiveedu.
Habibulla reportedly developed a relationship with N. Sagar of Hoskote in Karnataka and was reportedly involved in betting. He raised money from punters and transferred the amount to Sagar’s bank account using UPI mode. The three reportedly spread tentacles in the hinterland and brought more people into the network, including lakhs rupees at each level.
Upon receiving the information, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Kadapa) B. Sunil raided the betting cave near the Choutapalle level crossing.
In another operation, M. Venkata Ravi, 27, from Prakasam District, S. Madhu Prasad, 32, and G. Vinod Kumar, both from Kadapa, were arrested. In a third operation, Chinna Chowk police raided Brahmaiah Shed in the city and arrested K. Sivateja, 28, Peta Srikanth, 30, C. Ganapathi, 35 and Karu Rajesh, 33.
