COVID-19 | Seven more die, while South Coastal AP logs 1,600 cases in 24 hours

The second wave of coronavirus continued to take its toll in Andhra Pradesh on the south coast, as more than 1,600 people fell ill with the infection, while seven other patients succumbed to the virus within 24 hours.

The number of active cases rose to 18,481 as an additional 1,641 people tested positive in the past 24 hours that ended at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. This emerges from a health bulletin that the state government published on Thursday evening.

Four more patients died in the Nellore district, three more succumbed to the virus in the Praksam districts during the reporting period, claiming a total of 1,226 victims. Nellore District has reported 604 deaths while Prakasam District has caused 622 deaths to date.

The cumulative number exceeded 1.50 lakh in the region as Nellore and Prakasam districts reported 1,002 and 639 infections, respectively. Ongole alone reported 174 new cases.

Although new cases had decreased in the past 24 hours, health officials were struggling to treat the growing number of patients. Only about 500 patients, including 304 in Nellore District, were cured during the period as hospitals were overcrowded with patients in need of oxygen assistance.

The recovery rate dropped to 86.93% as only a little over 1.31 lakh have won the battle against the virus so far.

COVID Care Center opened

Meanwhile, only 751 people attended eight meeting venues in Nellore district, according to an official statement on Thursday. In the meantime, a COVID Care Center (CCC) has been opened in Kavali to treat the asymtomatic patients in the Revenue Division and to leave the hospitals to critical cases.

The health authorities warned people to adhere to COVID-appropriate behavior, e.g. B. wearing masks, cleaning hands with disinfectant, and maintaining social distance in the face of the rapid rise in infection.
