East Godavari Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB – Sand and Alcohol) staff destroyed a record 67,900 liters of jaggery detergent worth about £ 13 while raiding 30 locations in the district on Tuesday.
SEB Deputy Superintendent of Police Sumit Garud said The Hindu that much of the destroyed jaggery laundry was excavated on islands and in residential areas in Peddapuram, Pithapuram and Prathipadu.
The raids by 13 teams with 100 employees began in the early hours of Tuesday.
Five people were arrested and a vehicle with 100 liters of ID liquor was confiscated. “Our teams destroyed 450 drums of the brew during the raids,” said Garud.
