The state government opened three TruNat test centers on Monday in the cities of Ramachandrapuram, Tuni and Kothapeta in the East Godavari district and carried out at least 1,200 to 1,500 COVID-19 tests every day in the three centers.
In the city of Ramachandrapuram the Minister of Social Affairs of the backward classes, Chap. Venu Gopala Krishna inaugurated the TruNat test center, where five machines were set up to test at least 500 people per day.
The collector D. Muralidhar Reddy and the district doctor for medicine and health, Dr. KVSGowreeswara Rao, said the TruNat test centers would help increase testing from 5,000 to over 6,000 a day in the district, where every 20 out of a hundred people test positive for COVID-19.
Speaking to Mr Muralidhar Reddy, Mr Venu Gopala Krishna directed him to oversee COVID treatment services across the district, particularly in the two cities of Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram, where COVID cases have increased significantly in the second wave.
The minister and the collector inspected the vaccination campaign at the local hospital in the city of Ramachandrapuram on Monday. On Monday, East Godavari authorities began giving the 45,000 people the second dose of Covishield vaccine.
