Backward classes Welfare Minister Chap. Venu Gopala Krishna on Friday inaugurated a Power Swing Absorption Plant in the Government General Hospital (GGH-K) here in the East Godavari district, which produces 1,700 liters of medical oxygen per day.
The state government spent £ 1.20 million building the oxygen facility, which aims to help COVID-19 patients admitted to the GGH-Kakinada, which has been declared a 1000-bed COVID-19 hospital to provide medical oxygen.
“We are preparing to add more oxygen capacity to the hospital to save lives after a flare-up of COVID-19 cases across East Godavari district. An in-house medical store was also opened in GGH-Kakinada on Friday, ”said East Godavari collector D. Muralidhar Reddy.
So far, the district has been dependent on medical oxygen from the neighboring district of Visakhapatnam.
“We will continue to source oxygen from Visakhapatnam based on our needs, but we will try to meet the needs of the oxygen facility in GGH-Kakinada,” said Muralidhar.
Kakinada MP Vanga Geetha, joint collector G. Lakshmisha, additional district doctor for medicine and health Dr. N. Prasanna Kumar, GGH Kakinada Superintendent Dr. R. Mahalakshmi, GGH-Kakinada-RMO Dr. E. Giridhar and responsible oxygen plant G. Vivenkananda were present.
