TDP President Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has written a letter to Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy alleging the government’s “negligence towards private school teachers in providing a COVID aid package”.
In Thursday’s letter, Mr Atchannaidu said the private teachers and non-teaching staff who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic should be supported by a monthly grant of £ 10,000. He also appealed to the government to provide interest-free bank loans and employment opportunities in the form of outsourced workers in public sector companies.
When schools closed, many private school teachers struggled because of lack of salaries. Some of them had become vegetable sellers, cobblers, and construction workers for a living. The government failed miserably to support them, he said.
“It is unfortunate that Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy does not focus on the education system. The Telangana government is distributing 25kg of rice along with £ 2,000 per month to support private tutors. Other states also support them in some way. But in AP, Mr. Jagan pretends nothing has happened, ”said Mr. Atchannaidu.
