The first mango special train of the Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway (E Co R) for this season started its journey on Wednesday from Vizianagaram with 200 tons of mangoes in 11,600 boxes to New Adarsh Nagar station in New Delhi.
The special parcel express trains run from Vizianagaram, the hub for the transport of mangoes from northern Andhra Pradesh to New Delhi. According to AK Tripathi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, the Waltair Division had transported 4,350 tons of mangoes in 20 trains in the last financial year.
Additional mango specials are operated by the Waltair Division based on demand from mango dealers. Despite the pandemic situation, the Waltair Division is making every effort to continue the supply chain for essential goods, Tripathi said.
