The district of Anantapur started a COVID vaccination campaign on Saturday for all eligible persons in 96 village and station secretariats in all mandals of the district as a test run for the four-day “Tika Utsav”, which is to be started from April 11th to 14th at 107am Centers.
District collector Gandham Chandrudu said the district received 21,000 doses on Friday evening and a target for vaccinating 21,835 people had been set for the village secretariats. However, paramedical staff could vaccinate 22,695 people by 5:00 p.m. and register 103.94% of the target, which had risen to 105.36% by 6:00 p.m.
“We’re not wasting a dose of the vaccine,” added the collector. District Medical and Health Physician Y. Kameswara Prasad said that one vial of Covishield vaccine contains 10 doses of 0.5 ml. “However, there were more doses in some vials, so we can vaccinate more people, and this has been the experience in other counties as well. “
People excitedly came out to get vaccinated against the backdrop of the rising number of COVID cases in the past four days. There were 133 new cases on Saturday, 167 on Friday, 137 on Thursday and 197 on Wednesday. There was at least one death on each of the four days. The district’s death toll is 609 while Kurnool is 499.
Kurnool District registered 296 new cases on Saturday, increasing the number of active cases to 1,230. Anantapur has 821 active cases. The cumulative number of positive cases in Anantapur is 69,331 versus 62,872 in Kurnool.
