The city will host the one-day National Executive Meeting of the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) on April 3rd for the first time in nearly 35 years at Hotel Yatri Nivas, Appughar. Around 30 executives and officials from different parts of the country will attend the meeting, which will take place on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
At a press conference here on Friday, YHAI national chairman S. Venkat Narayanan said the meeting would be held every three to four months, but they have been unable to hold the program since last year due to COVID-19. He said the main goal of the program is to create awareness of the YHAI and to raise awareness of the programs and various activities that are carried out each year. “During the meeting we would also discuss and make important decisions related to the association and work out a plan for the activities to be organized for different states in the coming days,” he said.
He said that following COVID-19, the YHAI took various steps to prevent the possible spread of the infections while organizing various camps and activities. He said that the YHAI had decided to limit the number of people in different camps for the collective good and that the response to the programs had been good.
Mr. Venkat Narayanan also said that the YHAI organized a number of activities like trekking, cycling and some others in Andhra Pradesh. Places like Araku Valley, Papikondalu, Maredumilli Forest Region and Seshachalam Forests have a lot going for these adventure sports, he added.
“We want to project these activities like national programs. In the past only people from Andhra Pradesh attended these events. We would like to bring adventure lovers from different parts of the country to these events in Andhra Pradesh, ”he said, adding that this would increase tourist activity in the state, in addition to making taxi drivers, hoteliers and other tourism-dependent people make a living .
Women’s unity
According to Venkat Narayanan, a new YHAI women’s unit with around 52 female members will be initiated in the city from April 4th. He said this will be the sixth YHAI women’s unit in the country. “The first unit started a few years ago in Puducherry with 150 members. Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar also have women’s units. The fifth unit started two months ago in Mumbai and the sixth unit will start in Vizag on Sunday. Our goal is to ensure women’s unity in every state, ”he said.
National Vice Presidents, CD Vivekananda, Kiran Natekar, National Treasurer Manoj Jhori, Chairman of the AP Branch B. Uma Maheswara Rao, Chairman of the YHAI District Unit N. Nageswara Rao, Secretary of the AP Branch, Ch. Ravi Paul and several others were present.
