The first Kisan Rail left Vijayawada

Vijayawada’s first Kisan Rail went to New Delhi with 220 tons of mangoes loaded in Nuzvid, said P. Srinivas, Vijayawada’s Divisional Railway Manager (DRM).

“The mango rake was loaded by the Vijayawada division after a six-year hiatus. The South Central Railway (SCR) is expected to generate 9.9 lakh revenue. In total, around 40 rakes will be loaded in the summer, bringing in SCR revenues of £ 3.5 billion, ”said Srinivas. Nuzvid is famous for its mango varieties, including Banginapalli, Chinna Rasalu, and Pedda Rasalu across the country.

The Indian government has started the concept of running Kisan Rails to increase the income of the agricultural sector by providing hassle-free, safe and fast transportation services for agricultural products. To encourage farmers, the Ministry of Food Industry announced a tariff concession of 50 percent for the transport of registered fruit and vegetables via Kisan Rails under “Operations Greens – TOP to Total”.

“The Vijayawada Division’s Business Development Unit (BDU) had regular negotiations with farmers explaining the benefits of transporting their products on Kisan Rails,” said P. Bhaskar Reddy, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager.

He appealed to farmers, traders and exporters to take the opportunity of the Kisan Rail special trains to transport the fruit stocks safely and quickly. Railways offers special concessions for the transportation of agricultural products, Reddy said.
