The Guntur Urban Police has started a new initiative in which trained police personnel in the police command and control rooms take care of calls from women and children who need transport to bring them home safely.
Police superintendent K. Arif Hafeez said the program was launched to ensure women and children can get to their homes safely even in the dark and that transportation is not available.
The control room would be manned at all times by vigilant police personnel who, upon receiving information, dispatch a police patrol vehicle close to the caller’s location so that he would remain unharmed in his apartment with male and female personnel without any inconvenience to them, Mr. Hafeez.
Similarly, female police officers patrol the Disha vehicles in every police station in Guntur Urban. They have downloaded the Disha app onto their Android smartphones and will receive police help if necessary.
The perpetrators of raping girls and women are strictly fought and punished with severe legal action. He warned that legal action would be taken against those who committed bullying, early evening teasing or rioting and that there was no need to worry if their elders were required to take appropriate legal action in advance.
