Judge remembers order to convict senior officers

The Andhra Pradesh Supreme Court has recalled an order sentencing IAS officer Girija Shankar and IFS officer Chiranjeevi Chaudhari to one week’s imprisonment for opposing the order to regularize 36 employees. Judge Battu Devanand passed the sentence, which sentenced the two officers to a week in prison and fined them 1,000 yen, but later recalled the order.

The vacancy notice to fill village horticultural officials was issued in 2020 and conditions were later reportedly changed. The High Court asked the division to consider providing the posts to 36 people who had applied to the court to seek employment.

The High Court, at the request of the state government, gave them two weeks to implement the order after initially sentenced to one week in prison.
