The Congress Party has expressed its support for the move to install a statue for Tipu Sultan in Proddatur and has battered the Sangh Parivar outfits for spitting poison on the emperor.
Pathan Mohammad Ali Khan, the deputy state vice-president of the minority congress, told media representatives on Sunday that the BJP and other frontal organizations of the RSS were trying to project ‘Hazrat Tipu Sultan’ in a bad light and tried to thwart the installation of his statue .
He said the local Muslims had already represented themselves to the government for the erection of the statue at their own expense, for which the local YSRCP MLA performed “Bhumi Puja”.
At a time when the majority of Indian rulers were becoming submissive, Mr. Khan praised Tipu as the only emperor to express his revolt and take on the British, wondering why the BJP should object to his statue. “The YSRCP may be afraid of the BJP, but not of the Muslims,” he added.
