Inauguration of the oxygen generator plant in Vijayawada GGH

Another in the old government. Hospital is slated to open in a week

Minister Velampalli Srinivasa Rao, together with Mayor R. Bhagya Lakshmi and MLC Md. Karimunnisa, inaugurated an oxygen generator system on the premises of the Government General Hospital in the city on Saturday.

The plant was built with the support of the alumni of the Siddhartha Medical College.

On the occasion, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that the state government is expanding the medical oxygen infrastructure to avoid future oxygen shortages. Another such facility would be inaugurated in a week on the grounds of the Old Government Hospital.

District collector J. Nivas said several companies would come forward to help the government set up such facilities.

He said cement companies Ramco and KCP were providing oxygen assistance. Both facilities, which were built at a cost of ₹ 2 billion, were funded by former SMC students.

College Alumni Association Secretary Dr. Nalamati Amanna said several former students came forward to help the government improve its capacity.

He said that Dr. Yalamanchili Aruna Kumari donated 50 lakh and Alluri Indrakumar ₹ 25 lakh, apart from many others who contributed.
