Two brothers, Voddu Nageswara Reddy and Voddu Pratap Reddy, former Pesaravai Sarpanch and former director of the Kurnool District Central Cooperative Bank, were brutally killed Thursday morning.

According to Gadivemula Police, a group of people came and pounced on them in a van while the deceased siblings were walking to the cremation site with four others in the village of Pesaravai, Gadivemula Mandal. The occupants of the vehicle are said to have dismounted, the brothers hacked with sickles and fled the scene. Three others were also injured in the incident and immediately rushed to Nandyal Government Hospital for treatment.

The brothers were well-known TDP employees and supporters of the constituency president of the Nandyal party, Gouru Venkata Reddy. Five to six members of the rival group knew of the brothers’ plan to walk to the cemetery to perform the third day rituals of Pratap Reddy’s brother V. Mohan Reddy, who had recently died.

Upon learning of the incident, Nandyal Police Deputy Superintendent Chidananda Reddy and his staff rushed to the scene. The situation in the village is tense and pickets have been ordered by the police. It is a well-known faction village and is near Chindukur, where faction killings rocked the state in 2008.
