₹ 170 crore under crop insurance in Krishna

District collector J. Nivas said the YSR Free Crop Insurance Scheme for Kharif 2020 has paid out 170.43 billion yen to 84,648 farmers so far.

In a workshop on crop insurance and other agricultural programs here on Monday, Mr Nivas said that farmers who grow 12 different crops on 1,50,026 hectares of agricultural land in the district are so far covered by the program.

He asked the officials concerned to identify farmers who grow other crops and include them in crop insurance.

He asked the staff of the agriculture department on the first floor to contact the farmers and ensure the e-crop booking and online registration of the farmers.

In response to a request from farmers who grow bananas, turmeric and other crops, Mr Nivas said that crops grown along the Krishna River will also be included in the crop insurance scheme.

Regarding the minimum promotion price, Mr. Nivas said 3.03 lakh metric tons of grain were purchased for MSP by 25,677 farmers in 466 malls in the district.
