Board for the selection of the Pope by Brahmamgari Mutt

Foundation Minister V. Srinivasa Rao has announced that the government will set up a committee to deal with the selection of the successor to the leadership of Sri Pothuluru Veerabrahmendra Swami Vari Matham (Brahmamgari Mutt) in the Kadapa district.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said it was everyone’s responsibility to protect the dignity and respect of the killers.

“Sri Pothuluri Veerabrahmendra Swami, who wrote the ‘Kalagnanam’, a book of prophecies in Telugu, entered ‘jeeva samadhi’ in 1693. Since then, 11 popes have led the mutt, ”said the minister.

After the death of Sri Veerabhoga Vasanta Venkateswara Swamy there was a dispute over his successor. It was said that the Pope had chosen his successor and that this was also mentioned in his will, he added.

But trouble broke out when the families of his first and second wives wanted someone from their respective lineage to be named the mutt’s successor, the minister said, adding that “the government has yet to make a decision on this matter” .

The government will seek advice from Hindu dharmic organizations, he said, adding that people could send their proposals to the Regional Joint Commissioner.
