New infections rise when deaths decrease

After lying in double digits for several days, COVID deaths dropped to single digits in the past 24 hours on the south coast of Andhra Pradesh.

Five patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours versus 12 patients the day before. The number of victims was two less than 1,710, with three patients in the Prakasam district and two more in the SPSR Nellore district losing the battle against the virus.

Although the number of deaths has decreased, new cases in the area rose by just over 300 in the last 24 hours through 9 a.m. Wednesday.

However, the number of recoveries continued to surpass the number of new infections by around 500 during the reporting period. More than 1,500 patients recovered in the region, according to a health bulletin published by the state government on Wednesday evening.

The number of new infections had declined in June. The region again recorded over 1,000 cases in a single day. With 1,102 people including 711 in Prakasam district testing positive, the total number of cases approached the 2.35 lakh mark in the region.

The recovery rate improved to 90.41%, with 858 patients in the SPSR Nellore district and 708 patients in the Prakasam district cured of the disease. More than 2.12 lakh patients have recovered in the region to date.

SPSR Nellore Collector KVN Chakradhar Babu said after accepting ventilators donated by West Pharma Company representatives as part of their social responsibility (CSR) recovery rate, the recovery rate has improved significantly thanks to the combined efforts of officials and health professionals.

Vaccination for mothers

Mr Babu opened a vaccination facility for women with children under the age of five on Wednesday and wanted all eligible women to take the vaccination, as experts say children could bear the brunt of a third wave of coronavirus.

So far, 28% of people in the district have been vaccinated, he said, admonishing vulnerable populations to take a vaccine while on their move. It was found that those who took two doses of the vaccine made a quick recovery if they became infected, he said.
