Virus claims 12 more lives as active cases decline

The number of active COVID cases continued to decline to just over 21,000, although 12 more patients succumbed to the viral disease within 24 hours in the south coast of Andhra Pradesh.

Compared to the previous day, the number of new cases increased by 131 in the last 24 hours, as 311 people in the SPSR district of Nellore and 499 in the district of Prakasam tested positive for the disease. According to a health bulletin published by the state government, the total number of coronavirus cases thus approached the 2.34 lakh mark.

The toll reached 1,700 in the region, with SPSR Nellore District reporting eight more deaths and Prakasam District reporting four more deaths. So far, 866 patients in the SPSR district of Nellore and 837 in the district of Prakasam have died of the infection since the beginning of the pandemic.

The recoveries remained high at 1,099 in Nellore and 1,487 patients in Prakasam were declared recovered. This reduced the number of active cases to 21,287. So far, 2.10 lakh patients have won the battle against the disease.

Meanwhile, health officials have set up temporary sheds to house those admitted to hospitals in critical condition.
