Lower fuel taxes, requires CPI (M)

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) protested on Monday in front of gas stations in Kurnool against the steep rise in fuel prices.

“The gasoline and diesel prices in our country are among the highest in the world, and one of the main reasons for this is the exorbitant taxes levied by central and state governments,” said party chairman G. Ramakrishna.

At the Bharat Petroleum Pump near the Sukhibhava Hospital in the city, party leaders held placards and banners demanding that gasoline and diesel be brought within the scope of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and control of the central government in collecting taxes or of the oil refineries raise base prices.

“What does the center do when the oil marketers raise prices every other day while crude oil prices fall?” Said Mr. Ramakrishna.

The protesters raised slogans against the center and said the prices of essentials had continued to rise due to the rise in fuel costs.

With the start of the kharif season, farmers ‘demand for diesel will increase in the coming months and if fuel prices continue to rise like this, input costs will exceed farmers’ estimates, he noted.
