CPI (M) warns of property and garbage taxes

The State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), P. Madhu, raised strong objections on Monday to the decision of the state government to increase land and garbage fees at the behest of the center.

Addressing the media here, he said it was unfortunate that the Union and state governments were indifferent to the plight of the people at a time when coronavirus was wreaking havoc. The tax, which is supposed to help citizens remove rubbish from the streets, would be a burden for citizens, he said.

The pandemic has left millions of people out of work and it is inappropriate to raise taxes at this point, he said.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy should take note of the suffering of the people and immediately withdraw the issued government ordinance, otherwise the CPI (M) would cause a stir, he added.
